"In 1944, Guignard arrived in Belo Horizonte brought by then-mayor Juscelino Kubitschek to direct the School of Fine Arts. In his book “Historical Memory of the Guignard School", Antônio Moura , states that there were many difficulties in implementing a modernist school, but Alberto da Veiga Guignard had a great didactic liberalism with extraordinary artistic knowledge, which alone was enough to fill an infrastructural void in the so-called field of the fine arts.
This didactic liberalism provided Belorizontine society with a historical cultural leap, allowing for a great evolution in aesthetic conceptions. The art courses administered by the school, in this historical moment, meant a cultural movement and a new artistic conception within the aesthetic standards of that time. Guignard was concerned with the artistic qualities of his students, providing them with the human projection that revealed a new look at their individual potentials and discoveries. As a great educator, he trained artists who pass on his teaching philosophy to the present day.
